Steve,
Let me offer my 2 cents to your problems. I know you said you have original brake wedges, but make sure the threads are undercut where they meet the wedge.The originals, according to diagrams are undercut while some later repros are not. I used a dremel tool with two cut off wheels and was able to grind an under cut as required.Also check to make sure the brake adjusting arms are the same length for both shoes.If one is longer, it will cause that shoe to be further away from the wedge. I had both of these problems with my rear brakes.
