: I just bought a replacement brake/clutch pedal shaft kit from Snyder's.Now I'm trying to figure out how to remove the old shaft without removing the clutch housing from the car.I can't seem to find any references to how the shaft is retained and removed in any of the reference books i've purchased thus far. Thanks in advance for your help>

Steve-
I had the same problem with my 1930 coupe, and was able to remove the shaft without removing the engine or transmission.First remove the pedals, then locate the pin which holds the shaft in place - it should have a round head, and as I recall is really a 3/16" dia shaft rivet.I was able to grab this rivet head with a vise-grip and very gradually and gently rotate it back and forth until it turned a little. Keep adding "liquid wrench" or other penetrating oil, and work on it until it can be pulled out.Apply oil to the shaft where it enters the housing, also add some on the inside of the housing through the clutch inspection hole.Grip the shaft with large locking pliers and gradually work it back and forth until it can be turned also, then pulled out.If necessary, you can heat the shaft with a torch, then cool quickly with water to help break it loose. If the rivet can't be loosened, grind the head off and either drive it out to the inside of the housing or drill carefully all the way through with a drill bit 1/16" smaller in diameter. It can be sheared off when the shaft is turned. When I installed the new shaft, I locked the rivet in place with a cotter on the inside of the housing (drill a hole in the end which sticks out beyond the housing). Good luck!
