The problem is-
The grease fitting on the throwout sleeve first communicates with the inner bore of the sleeve so it slides nicely, and then greases the throwout bearing through holes ion the sleeve that correspond with an internal slot in the bearing - if, that is you have an original style bearing.The replacement units are sealed and don't require greasing.
If you have an original bearing, the greasing requirements are different than if you have a sealed bearing.
With a sealed bearing, one shot of grease (I'd use Lubriplate)should last a year or better,With the original style, one shot every two-three months would be plenty for a constantly driven car with much less required for "parade only" cars.
The problem is that extra grease only has one place to go, and you don't want it there.
If the rumble you hear is only present whern the clutch is depressed, then it's already too late for the throwout bearing, and a replacement is called for.If the rumble is there regardless of pedal position, then the bearings in the tranny are suspect, with replacement also being the option.
