One characteristic of the original style bearing is that the entire outer housing turns. In at least some of the modern ones the case is stationary.The one on my '31 has a stamped legend on the back of the housing that would be visible with the access plate removed that indicated "Aetna Bearing Co.", and bore the date "1945"Mine (Which appears to be still in useable shape) is a ball thrust with a brass inner bushing.

I haven't bought one yet so I can't be more specific.Maybe someone else out there has more experience.
