: : I have re-worked my doors on my 1930 Closed Cab Pickup. I have purchased new oversized pins with a knurl. The hinge holes on both the door hinges and the cab have been properly bored to the correct size for the new oversized hinge pins. I had the painter spray the tops of the hinge pins body color as required.

: : My Question: Is there a correct tool and method to use when driving the pin knurl into the top of the door hinges? I would like to avoid any cracking or chiping of the new nitro cellulose paint that I have on the hinge pin itself. I have had several good suggestions, but wanted to see what all of you guys with experience have to say before I begin this process of hanging my doors. Please respond here(so all can see) or write me with further details at ksmith@coax.net

: Ken,
: You do have quite a problem. If it was mine I would machine, file or grind off about half the knurl, all that does is hold the pin in the top portion of the hinge anyway and have you ever heard of anyone having one come out while on a tour? The second thing, and I assume the shank of the pin fits the pin OK and your only problem is the knurl, is to freeze them with dry ice. That will really shrink them and you should be able to tap them in using Bob's idea of a leather cushion and a block of wood. Good luck
: Jim

What happens to the nice paint job on the top of the pins when you place them in dry ice?Have you done this with painted parts?
