Correcting a binding door

I have a 1930 Closed Cab Pickup. I am having a problem with the driver's side door. I have corrected the door sag by shimming the cab and being sure the belt on both the cab and doors line up. I have one problem. The space between the cowl and the front of the door does not provide enough space to prevent the door from springing out when you hold the door edge to the cab. The door and cowl are gently touching. I have new paint on the door.

I have been told to take the cab hinges off, heat them and bend in the direction of the back of the pickup about 1/8" or so. This is done equally on all three hinges.

I was also told to put towels in the V formed at the hinge area and push the door slightly to in effect pull the hinges towards the back of the cab.

WHAT IS THE CORRECT PROCEDURE?
