Ken,
I'd like to make the following suggestions in addition to Larry's response.
1) Join either one or both of the national Model A Ford Clubs. The bi-monthly magazines published by them are well worth the dues.
2) Find a local Model A Ford club, where you will find other enthusiasts, most of whom are willing to help, lend a hand or guidance. You will also see various Model A's in every conceivable condition and that may help you decide what grade of restoration you want to achieve.
3) There are several publications that you can purchase or may check out from a local club library that can help in restoration. These are the "How to Restore" series (especially Vol.1 for getting started) from the Model A Ford Club of America.Jim Schild's "Model A Shop Manual".The "Judging Standards and Restoration Guidelines" jointly published by MAFCA and the Model A Restorer's Club (MARC) is the defintive guide if you are going for authenticity.Marith McCoul at Fords-N-More has a new book on '30/'31 Coupes that I'm sure will be a good reference. You can spend a lot of money just on references but some can be borrowed. But I've found I'll wear a copy out using it and the owner may want his back in useable condition.
4) There are also now lots of advisors on the 'net. The Technical Director of MAFCA has an e-mail address as well as several visitors to this board.Don't hesitate to ask!Send an e-mail to someone who is working on a like body.
5) Label EVERTHING you take off and note where it goes!In your enthusiasm to get the work done. You will have everything apart and get distracted (you will believe me!).Then when it comes time to clean it up and put it back, you'll have a better idea of where and how it goes back together.
6) Visit the Model A Trader for addresses for all of these sites and where to get parts etc.
John
