In my experience, the shut-off valve under the tank never seals completely, and the float valve the carb may not either. The only way I have found to have a dry carb. after a few days storage is to install a brass hardware-store shut-off valve in the gas line between the carb and firewall. The type with 1/4" compression fittings and cross-bar type handle which opens and closes by screwing up and down is easy to install if the line is cut and small section removed, and it shuts off completely!
