There are two different types of cable.WIthout seeing what you have, but knowing the tendancy of folks to switch stuff, you may have a non-compatible setup.

Take a look at the end of the shaft in the gearbox on the driveshaft where the cable goes.It will either have about a 3/32" SQUARE hole, or a 3/16" dia ROUND hole with a slot in one place to the outside of the shaft.

If you've got the cable with the square end, and the shaft with the round hole, it won't work.

for your car, the Driveshaft end should be round & keyed. There should be a flanged collar pressed on the Speedo cable at the Speedometer end that would keep the cable from falling out of contact with the speedometer shaft.The cable is 62"long.The housing should be about 1/2" in diameter.
