:Dan- You are the lucky owner of an early '28 Model A! Your engine was assembled in the first part of January, 1928, and undoubtably put in your car not long after. There are many differences between these early cars (called "AR" features by many restorers, after the suffix given in the parts books to the first version of a part as A-XXXX-AR), and the later Model A's.Many of the early features were carried for quite a while during production. The left-hand emergency brake was used with the early brake system which used a multi-part cross-shaft to operate the rods, and did not have a seperate emergency brake system, the left-hand lever operating the brakes just like stepping on the brake pedal. This brake system was relpaced with the seperate emergency system (but still with the multi-link cross-shaft) starting as early as March of 1928, but was still used on some cars as late as November of 1928.My May 28, 1928 Fordor Sedan has this early brake system, and I have restored it to like-new condition and it works great!Congratulations on owning an unusual car and have fun learning all its "special" features!
