Parnell- there are rear axel pullers especially made for the Model A rear axels - they work well but still require some "tapping" with a hammer to loosen the hub even when they are in place.The "knock-off" type works best is you can have a helper pull on the hub and drum at the same time, that way you are less likely to damage the differential gears.New axels are available from Brattons or Snyders but are big bucks - its probably better to locate a good used axel - they aren't hard to find (especially when you don't need one!).Be sure the gear end of the axel isn't badly worn - the teeth should not be "sharp" on the edges.I wrote an article in The Restorer magazine in 1995 (don't remember which month) about rear axel overhaul and adjustment which might be of help if you decide to remove the worn axel.
