Hi, I had a problem in this area, and the following was a quick, long-lasting cure (the tapped hole through my cylinder head was stripped): Put the engine on time, i.e. put the timing pin into the index hole in the timing gear. Put the spark lever all the way up.Then clean the distributor base and the sides of the hole in the cylinder head with a little Gumout spray or MEK. Put a little epoxy gel on the clean, oil-free distributor base(not too much, it shouldn't drip onto the shaft) and lower the distributor into the clean, oil-free hole in the head, engaging the drive with the distributor shaft tang.If the points are opening with the spark lever all the way up, the distributor is in a good spot, and you can let the epoxy harden there. The distibutor will stay on proper time, and if you ever need to remove it, just apply some heat near the original lock bolt hole with a torch, and the epoxy will soften up. |
