There are two problems with Ditzler. You're not going to want to hear this. The first is that formulas change over the years and the laquer paint you get now is fairly dissimilar to the laquer paint for which those codes were developed (a long, long time ago). The second problem is the paint store mixing process. If your paint dealer is like mine, he turns the mixing color machine off unless he's using it.This allows the pigments to seperate and settle out. Then when someone wants a custom mix, he turns the machines on for about a minute and off he goes, to mix the color with mix colors that are incompletely re-constituted.For that reason, you get weird stuff no matter what you order.(you should see him wreck the new 1990's greens).Back before we gave up on the formula mix, we used to get every color of the rainbow when we ordered Ford maroon. In order to get something exactly right (using codes), the mix color machine would have to run all day, all of the time. For that reason, we insist that they mix each batch we order off the original chip and NOT use the codes. We do prefer the MAFCA/MARC chip book for this - not the Ditzler book. |
