Normally the Borg unit that is used is the '50s Rambler since it has ends configured for easy flange bolt-on.It's normally installed in mid driveshaft, as far toward the engine as possible to minimize unsprung weight.
The drive shaft and torque tube are normally cut, and re-attached to the front and rear of the Borg unit with homemade flanges and shaft couplings.The Borg solenoids were generally 6V but there are 12V units available from later model cars.The governor doesn't care about voltage.
