: Hello,

: I've just finished preparing my frame for new paint. What primer is best to be applied before painting? And secondly, What paint is best for looks and durability? I'm not building a show car. I just don't want to have to do this again for quite awhile.

On clean bare metal, I use PPG's DP90 black epoxy primer. This is a 2 part paint, mixed one to one. Use a good respirator. 2 or 3 wet coats will seal the metal forever. If you dont add a top coat in a week's time, you should scuff the primer with a scotch pad to enhance adhereance. I topcoat with PPG's Concept urethane. If you dont like the high gloss, add flattener. PPG has a new line of economy urethane that may suit your purposes. I use the best paint that I can, to try to give the very best, long lasting job possible. epoxy and urethane paints are impervious to spilled gas, oil, paint thinner, acid rain, and even zip strip, after curing for about a week.
