: How do I determine if my 1929 Ford Model A is a 170A?
_____

The 170-A is 1929 blindback two window Fordor. The upper quarters behind the rear door windows are painted steel (upper body color). It replaced the 60-C steelback around July 1929. The 170-A is a slightly longer body, but the most obvious difference is the 60-C had the artificial leather roof covering extend down to the drip rails just above the doors. The 170 series had painted panels above the drip rails and the artificial leather roof material only covered the opening on top where the roof ribs are. This is the same roof treatment as the more common Town Sedan models. The roof covering on the 170 series is only visible when viewing from the front of the car, or standing on the running board (unless you're seven feet tall!).

The 170-A will look just like 170-B or 170-B Deluxe as shown above(1930), except for the cowl. For some photos of a 170-B Deluxe click on the link below. You'll need to scroll down the first page to get the menu of subjects.
