: I cleaned the points with WD-40, regapped the plugs, (they were off quite a bit, reset them to .027 and it started. Took it for a test drive, and it came up the hills normal again. Only problem left to solve, is lights still are not working. I flushed the radiator last week, and added anti-freeze. Maybe when I let it drain, it shorted out the wires. Oh well, it's always something! Thanks to all. Tom

Hi Tom
Have you checked your light bulbs to be sure they arn't burnt out. If the battery cable comes lose when running the A with the lights on, it will burn all the bulds in an instant! If you quickley switch to dim,it will get them also. I have BEEN THERE-DONE THAT. The A generator depends on the internal resistance of the battery to limit the VOLTAGE output.(Voltage--not Amps) If the cable comes loose, the generator will try to put out20 or 30 volts, the bulbs get very bright and then out they go!
I was driving about 45 mph (at night) when the cable came off. The lights went very bright--then went out. Switched to dim and they did the same. The car was being returned from a display at the county fair where we were reguired to remove the battery cable. In a hurry, I just stuck it on and didn't tighten it. Don't Do that pleace!! No,I did not have a wreak but it's no fun coming over Shreveport LA on hwy 80 with no lights!!!

Slow down-Be Safe,
Ben

,

I did not wreak the car
