: Now that you mention it, my battery has never sounded strong. Oast owner told me it was fairly new, so I just thought Model A's took alot to turn over. I have tried re-charging battery, and checked fluid, only to have same slow results. Ammeter shows battery is charging. Anyway, it's a new battery today. If that doesn't work, I'll try some of your other suggestions. Thanks for the advice. hello, tom, if you can see your way clearly to invest a bit of time and work, it would be well worthwhile to have a good close look at your wiring. when replacing the battery, look very carefully for corrosion in the cables or terminals-- the negative cable, which feeds the starter may have corrosion under the insulation near the terminals-- if so, a new cable is cheap at the price. look closely at the ground cable for detioration or corrosion- best is to remove the cable from the chassis frame, sand a 3/4" diam area around its bolt, sand or scrape the cable itself bright and clean, (or replace with a new one) and reassemble with a new bolt. then have a look through the other wiring-- best is to remove one wire at a time, examine it for corrosion at the terminal or broken strands, and replace if necessary. corrosion in the terminals is inevitable over time, and cleaning up the wiring , though a tedious nuisance, is necessary every few years. at the very least, loosen each terminal nut, wiggle the wires a bit to scrape down the oxide layer, and re-tighten. carla |
