Door Handle Refinishing

The door handles on my '30 Town Sedan are quite worn from the many years of use. They appear to be hollow and are dented - from people's rings I would guess. I tried a new replacement but it was solid cast, didn't match, and the shaft was too short and would not fit in the latch. Has anyone successfully had the surface built up again and re-chromed? I suppose I could try brasing, then carefully filing smooth again, but would hate to ruin the originals.
