Let me just add one thing to the (very good) advice that you have already been given. Find a spray can of Wurth 'Rost Off'. This is the ONLY penetrant that I have found that will actually work on rusted metal. Every time I use it to take apart stuff that 'ain't coming apart without serious damage' it amazes me how well it works. Trust me on this one... you will have bought your last can of WD-40 or the like.
