Hi Joel,

Thanks to you and the others for your responses. It seems that the jury is still out on this lining issue.

The backing of these linings have small grooves across them, and you can barely see the steel mesh through the backing. The mesh is only at the point. Is the mesh there to warn me of worn linings? (Squeal) Am I to believe that these linings are to be bonded as well as riveted to the shoes, or will riveting alone suffice? Right now I have the steel drums on the car but will eventually upgrade to the cast iron drums. Will this molded lining affect one differently than the other?

I've been lead to believe that the woven is always the best way to go because although they are softer, they provide higher friction than the harder molded linings.

Could you give me some comparative values between the two options please? I'm redoing the whole braking system and I don't want to go through all the trouble only to find that the shoes won't stop the car sufficiently.

I feel it's my responsibility to all of us not to give the model A reputation a black eye by causing an unecessary accident. Insurance rates like everything here in Connecticut are high enough!

Thanks again,

Kevin Daly
