While I recongnize that Joel has lots of Knowledge on modern brake shoe material and processes, I disagree with his conclusion on which linings to use. There are a LOT of NORS linings out there, and it's hard today to know just what material you have. BUT I would be leary of lining with steel woven material in it, and I prefer the older style soft woven lining on model As. The steel drums react differently than iron, and I would rather replace lining than look for decent drums (As a matter of fact, I have a 'stash' of good drums for my car's future!!--no, they're not for sale!!!)
Anyway, that just IMHO.
BTW, Brakes are one place where one shouldn't try to 'save a few bucks' (WHAT, I SAID THAT???, me MR. CHEAP!????)
Oh, I do lighly oil the felts, but on the other hand, that attracts dust....AAUGH!!
