: More dumb questions from a newbie.

: I have a Zenith carburetor. Don't know if it's a -1, -2, or -3. But with the car in the garage, it goes thru 1/8th of a tank a week. I've noticed a hole in the bottom of the carb, real small. My father-in-law calls it a "weep hole", saying that it is supposed to be there. I haven't read anything that says this. Not in the Restorer, or in the Ford Mechanics handbook. None of the drawings I have show this either.

: Is this really the way it is supposed to be?

.... There is another route other than replacing the gas shut off valve with a repop.Repop will work a year or two and you will be right back to same trbl. If you go to your local hardware and buy a natural gas shutoff valve with a neoprene inards you can use that and they are under 5 bucks. On a 29 you can reverse the line inside the car under the gas tank and rotate the existing shutoff leaving it in on position and add a fitting you will get in same dept at hdwre and your in business. this valve will last longer that orig type and cost less when you go to replace it. Unless you tank is ready anyway to rot and open up replacing and or rotating the valve will not harm anything. While you are at it you should add the little copper tube and screen filter to the tank end of origional type shut off valve (look in your parts catalogue). I would recomend uning a gross jet as float valve. You must have clean gas for any float valve to work most of the time ( most of time is all any seem to work making a positive shut off very important. I just found a heavy float in a tillitson carb that I put on my car, I think it's been resoldered and perhaps has some solder inside. Onward to the next problem.......It gets easier - really - well mabe not... Have Fun......Ed
