Hey JR.

The motometer does fit loosely by design. The center of the lid that opens is spring loaded and even when shut you can rock it slightly in all directions. If it's not flipping open while you're driving, it's probably tight enough. Don't bend the tabs as it's likely you'll break one off. This will render it useless. Then you'll definitely have to buy a new one!

I think the problem is not with your motor meter but possibly with your choice of cooling fluids. I'd try to run the car with straight distilled water first. Some antifreezes will foam and cause the problem your describing. Many suggest using the Sierra Brand as it doesn't foam up. If you're still overheating with just water, you have other problems. Are you driving with the spark retarded or with the fuel mixture too rich. These will cause overheating.

Remember!, you're motor meter probably isn't broken it's just trying to tell you something! The model A is a great talker. We just have to learn to listen. Keep in touch on this one too!

Regards,

Kevin Daly

PS Replacing the red gasket is sufficient!
