: : My Sparton horn appears to be an original to the best that I can tell. However, the motor does not appear to be mounted to the base plate correctly.

: : The Word "Sparton" is stamped on the rim of the base plate;with it located at 6 o'clock, the notch to receive the rear cover correctly appears at 3 o'clock.Instead of being mounted horizontally to the base plate, my drive motor is mounted vertically (two bolt holes append the drive motor to the plate). Therefore, when the rear cover is attached, it has to be rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise in order for the retaining and adjusting screw holes to line up with the motor. This places the identification plate on the rear cover at an incorrect 9 o'clock, instead of at 12 o'clock.

: : John Icenhower was kind enough to put me in touch with Lloyd Kerr of the Dallas Club -- a renowned expert on Model "A" horns. He indicated that it sounds like Sparton stamped my cover incorrectly, which they were known to do from time to time, says he.

: : In order to be "politically correct," I need a base plate that is correctly stamped that has the two mounting holes running horizontally to accept the drive motor.Should anyone have one -- from a disfuntional horn that might be lying around, for example -- I sure could use it.As a last resort, I could redrill the holes in my existing plate, plus the rivet hole that holds the receptacle for the horn wires, although the "dimples" stamped into the plate (that prevent movement of the insulator under the above-referenced receptacle?) would not be correctly aligned.

: : Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

: : Regards,
