: : OK -- here goes the first of many questions as I start the frame of resto of my 30 CC Pickup.

: : I sandblasted each leaf of the front and rear springs and have a few questions.

: : 1. What is the best way to fill in the deep pits along the edges? Is plastic filler ok or will it have problems due to the flexing of the springs?

: : 2. There is noticeable wearing on the top side of most of the leafs where the leaf on top rubbed. The outline of the ends of the top leaf is worn into the lower leaf.Should I be concerned about this and if so how best to repair it.

: : 3. What is the best long term solution to prevent squeaks?Teflon strips, webbing, plastic under the ends ?????

: : Thanks for the advice.I know I'll be looking for much more.

: Hi Jay,
:I can tell you what I did on my 30 T.S.,first thing for me was to round out the depressions caused by the spring above, also put a slight bevel on the end of the spring that caused the depression. The idea is that if you don't allow for the springs to flow free on the spring below you will restrict the flexability of the springs. As for the pitting of the flat surface a little is good I believe it helps retain the grease acting as little resevores. As for the outside edge needing some filler,I used plastic 3m filler, seems to work ok,but havn't put any real strain on the springs yet.Invest in spring covers, this will help keep road grime out and lubrication in.
: As for the teflon!!??? I added graphite to the grease and useda grease that is not water soluable, waterproof, can find at marine outlets.
: Good Luck and BE Careful with the Springs, could be dangerous,Loaded they are under a lot of pressure and don't trust old metal, can be brittle!!!

Hello Jay If you don't get satisfactory results, exact reproduction springs are available.Word has been that these are not available but they are.Contact me I'll fill you in.
