hello, richard, the method suggested involving loosening the nuts and starting the engine should work alright-- its also a fine old piece of folklore. you might try loosening the head like that, then knocking it back down with a heavy hammer and a wood block to work the penetrating oil around the studs. knock down--pry up --again and again until the rust works out of the holes to free up the head. another method would be to remove the studs with a stud puller--but you need to be a little bit careful not to break them. the old-timers would usually replace all the studs, anyway, cos they will stretch and not hold the torque-- or so i've heard. hope this helps carla |
