It may be old fashioned (but so is the car) however I believe spar varnish is still one of the best ways to finish wood used in exterior applications.

: I have a 29 woody wagon, my fatherinlaw Ray Matthews restored
: this car back in the early 60's. The car has been setting since 1991 after he pasted away. We got it back on the road and it runs great.
: My question is, the finish on wood on the tail gate and around the rear doors is fading/coming off. This winter I would like to sand and reseal. What finish is used now. Do you still use SPAR varnish ?
