Also to add to Marco's advice, the A is not a high revver, most of the scooty-poot happens in 3rd. 1st to 2nd is about 5-7mph and 2nd to 3rd is about 11-15mph. This is explained in the owners manual in which reprints can be obtained at the major parts suppliers.
Being new, you should get some books to help you along. To start with the five "How to Restore Your Model A", Les Andrews "Mechanic's Handbook", and Paul Moller's "Carburetor Manual".
The price may add up for these but they are way worth it.
