: I have just installed a new cam gear.It is the standard gear.Backlash is .007".I tried a .003" oversize and it was to tight.

: I have timed the car and am having trouble with it missing at high revolutions - about 35 mph in 3rd gear.I am going to put in a new condensor to see if that eliminates the problem.

: While doing the timing, I found that the distance between the rotor tip and the distributor body is .080" or more!Is this a critical problem? The rotor is relatively new.Should I replace the distributor body?Any suggestions?

Hello, Canada --

I think that it has something to do with the cold up your way...

The clearance between the rotor edge and the contact points inside the distributor body should be round .035".Make sure that your .080" reading is for all points, and not just one. Also, with the rotor cap off, you might check to see if you have any slop in the body's movement. If so, this could cause a high reading at one contact point, but a low reading at another. If there ain't no slop, and the readings all around show .080", (and no one has filed down the end of your rotor, which is a good assumption, since you said that it is new), then somewhere along the line someone may have "vigorously" cleaned up the contact points (with a file, prehaps?).In which case, splurge for a new body.

Good luck.
