This is a tough one. I've used Lacquer I know to be 20+ years old and have had no problems with it BUT!!! I worked on a restoration project where we painted a RR prototype car with some very old, sealed lacquer, Ditz-Lac, to be precise, and while it mixed and sprayed fine, it never really hardenend properly. A year later, you could still easily dent it with your fingernail. I don't know how it is now, some 10 years later, but this experience sure made me test sample old paint before I use it.
BTW, I no longer use lacquer, Concept goes on like lacquer, builds like enamel and can be rubbed out so you can't tell what it is. And it doesn't shrink much !!!
Modern lacquers are so far removed from what the cars were painted with originally that I don't belive even they can be 'authentic'.
T'ake care,
David
