If you want to make your own trunk for the satisfaction of doing so and making it "just like you want it", go for it.

If you want to do so to save money, you probably won't save much or you won't have one an nice as many commercial ones.

I made my own too - using plans from The Restorer.It's taken many months of spare time; I've spent over $200 for materials so far and it's almost done.

If I had it to do over again, I'd just purchase one that was already done, that I could look over and inspect. Actually, I saw a used one at the Portland Oregon Swap Meet for $125 that was a real beauty - I should have bought it anyway.

Just my 2 cents here - do whatever makes you happy!
