Jerry,

SInce you are not getting spark at the plugs it could be anything in the ignition except the plugs. You need to eliminate things until you find the problem. When the problem happens remove the distributor cap and set it near to a head bolt such that the contact on the inside is about 1/4 inch from the bolt. Then turn over the engine and see if there is a spark. If you rotate the engine until the points are closed then you can open the points with a screwdriver. If the ignition is on there should be a spark when you open the points with the screwdriver. You can also test the voltage at the coil to make sure that the ignition switchis working.
