Serial number of "This old Truck"

Ok, I have been told that the serial number for my truck is stamped on the crossmember of the frame near the drivers side. I dont see it. Am I to presume that its on the top and will not be able to see it unless I remove the cab. I really dont want to do this as it was restored a few years ago and dont want to disturb anything I cant put back satisfactory. My dilema is this. The motor serial numbers show that the engine was built in August of 1929. On the other hand with the worm gear and dash panel and emergency brake being located on the left hand side near the door, I am told it is a 1928. Hence the dilema...I want to buy a license plate and obtain a title. In my mind its only right to go with the 28, but how do I know for sure without dismanteling the cab from the frame. I even tried a mirror. Desperate means for the novice I guess. Thanks for the input.

Larry
