Aw jeez I've missed all the fun while I've been off line. Good on you for getting it sorted out anyway. Just as a matter of interest, the commutator segments on a starter armature are normally never underdercut, only generator armatures receive this treatment. If I remember rightly it's because the starter brushes are made of a harder material to carry the higher amperages drawn.
