: I have a friend who is restoring a 1929 Model A ford pickup and he needs a Visor. He has one that some one welded a metal plate over the visor instead of using fabric and screwed it all up.

I too went through the "visor replacement" problem with my 28-29 pickup.

Original visors seem rather rare.If you have an original frame, even if it has been welded with a cover piece of metal, I would try to restore or rework it to original.

If the frames are rare, the original covering material is even rarer. They must take a real beating in real life.I don't think I have ever seen an original visor except possibly a picture in Mack Hil's "Restoring the Model A Pickup".

New reproduction visor frames are available from any of the major parts houses. The only problem is that they are not like the originals - close but not the same.

New visor covers are also available from the major parts houses.Again the only problem is that they are not as the originals but instead are made as a pre-sewn envelope that slips over the frame but has the appearance of the original visor with the sewn squares in three locations.

In my case I purchased a reproduction frame but bought loose roofing material and made up my own sewn cover which is sewn through as were the originals. The edges I turned in and sewed but I suspect a more formal edge binding was used originally.

The nice thing about being sewn through is the visor material does not "flap" in the wind.I also suspect you can "sew through" with one of the reproduction cover kits if you want to spend the time to get closer to original, and have a sturdy sewing machine.

Let us know how you end up.

Best regards,
Joe
