:A well done street rod seems to be worth about 2-3 times as much as a well done restoration.

certainly, one or another ultra-fancy show car may indeed sell for a lot of money----but, here in california anyway, its common to see adverts in the papers for cars which aren't original, or have been hot-rodded. ---- modified cars which aren't freshly built show cars seem to sell for a lot less than original cars-----the sad truth is that a great many hot rod projects are started by men who seem to lack the specialised skills or extensive capital needed to make a proper job of the mods.

the fancy high performance cars which are well done are built up by men with very well-equipped shops, and very high-order skills, whether for themselves, or to the order of very wealthy men.

a sad truth, out here in the real world, is that, for every street rod that's well done, there are several more whose owners were once enthused, but lost interest when they discovered what those cars cost, in time and money---they come up for sale, sometimes, for, maybe, a dime on the dollar of the owner's investment.

moral of the story---if you wish to have a hot rod, then look for a chance to buy someone's half or three-quarter done project----and save a lot of money---!!!!!!
