Curt,

Sounds like a combination of the items mentioned with two possible additions. It sounds like a good possibility the head gasket is blown. With the engine warm look in the top of the radiator while the engine is briefly revved and look for air bubbles coming up to the top of the radiator. If necessary, apply both brakes and partially engage the clutch with the trans in REVERSE (and don't put one leg over the bumper!!!) to create a load and look for bubbles.Any air, and the head gasket is contributing.

Be sure your radiator has a proper baffle at the top that prevents you from seeing the tops of the tubes or core. This acts as a deflector to keep the water from the overflow pipe during normal operation.

If by some odd chance you have an original round tube radiator core and it looks good, DO NOT RECORE.While the original tanks with a new core is much better than an all new unit for overall appearance and fit, original restorable units are increasingly difficult to find for those of us that won't use anything else.

Even if all the aforementioned items exist, it is likely that the radiator and engine need at least a good back flush or more for the best possible cooling, but they all need to be checked and corrected as necessary.

Good luck,

Marco
