Curt,
Something else to add to your list.
Check the height of the overflow tube, below the radiator cap. If its to short, then normal running will easily force the water out. It may have been damaged, so a former owner cut it off, now making it too short. I'm not near my car right now, but my memory seems to say that it was almost up the the bottom of the radiator cap.
