Emergency Brake Problem

Posted by Asa Scranton on July 12, 1998 at 16:20:57

I was at the Farmers Co-op last weekend picking up some chicken wire with my 31 Tudor and when I went to leave the emergency brake did not release.I managed to free it up by hand and limped home.In trying to figure out what the problem was a traced it to the right rear drum, poped off the drum and found that the e-brake toggle link had been wearing on the outer face of the brake drum (where the lug bolt heads are).In checking for the cause I have determined that the e-brake carrier is bent, has a crack and is worn. The bend appears to be rotational and I'm afraid may not be repairable.Does anyone out there have a spare, good right rear e-brake carrier?I have been totally disappointed in after-market parts and the parts book I have, does not carry e-brake carriers. Also the e-brake shaft housing is badly pitted and too thin to re-bush and I will need another.Any help, leads, ideas, or success stories with after-market parts would be appreciated.Sincerely, Asa
