: : : hOW MUCH SHOULD I EXPECT TO PAY FOR A RUNNING FORD "A" ENGINE??? I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THESE THINGS AND DON'T WANT TO BE ROBBED.

: Maybe not all... there are some good used engines out there. It just depends on how you intend to use the car and how much money you intend to spend. Model A Fools play with their cars mechanically all the time and I am their King. I always am building and moving and putting one in and taking one out. I just sold a good engine with plenty of life to a fellow Fool on a budget. $500 for the engine and I gave him a guarantee of sorts. The way he uses the car he'll never wear it out. It all depends on your budget and your needs... and how Foolish you happen to be. Personally I'm such a Fool I'll pull an engine because it needs a coat of paint... I also have a lot of time on my hands....

Hello there Mike,
I have been hunting for parts for Model A's and T's ever since I got into them.I've been to many shows and swap meets as well as answering ads in the paper to find those silly little engines you're hunting for.I have some hints for you inside your search....
If you were here in my neck of the woods (Washington) I could take you to several areas locally to find engines for your "baby".Prices here start at $100 for a dab of paint on a bunch of rust.I don't know how prevelant rust is where you live, so I'll continue.
I bought a A pickup (28) to restore when I began. The seller was a really nice guy, answered all the questions I asked and I gave the guy $1500 for a truck that looked worn out.I'd previously met a guy nearby who could tell me what the nomenclature was and was able to let me know that the engine in the truck was an early thirty. Worse than that, I took the engine out only to find that he'd stuffed shims inside to make it look good.I had a lot of work in fron of me.The moral is:Make sure that you're getting what you're after.Take someone mechanically minded with you.
I told you about my friend...he rebuilds A and T engines for pennies, using okey parts for the people he just wants to get through the door, and buys the good stuff for the clients that jaw with him.If you're having someone else tell you they rebuilt an engine, make sure your friend looks it over well. The engine may run, but only for a few hundred miles.
Ho-hum.Guess I got diarreah of the mouth again.Good luck on your search for the right engine.
