Hello

Just finished taking my distributor out of my 31'.Thought I would never get it!I used some amazing stuff called P-Blaster, that I swear is 10 times better than WD-40, I ended up soaking mine for over a week, making an attempt every day. What I realize now, to make the job much easier is that not only do you want to put the material into the jam nut, but also into the oiler, and most importantly, and very messy on the engine, but put the spray between the distributor and the head also.I ended up having to force(finesse) mine out with a soft chisel, not prying but gently pushing under the distributor and the head to loosen it, once I had raised it about an 1/8 of an inch it was smooth sailing, but I sweated it all along. If you decide to remove the top shaft out of the distributor I've got some tips for you also.Dan
: Greetings!!

: After my road trip Sunday, I noticed the telltale signs of a headgasket problem, (running a bit hot, a bit rough and a bit of water/fuel/exhaust mix leaking near #4).

: Did the teardown tonight, decided to do all of the upper gaskets to have a look at some of the insides, which I have not seen since I got the "A" last year, and to do a finish on the manifolds etc.

: Things are going smooth, and before I break something:I have the head free per the technique posted a few days ago, however, the distributer will not budge.I removed the set screw above the intake, is the screw down near the oil pan below the sidepan required to be removed also?

: The distributer will not turn or lift at all, and I am not foolish enough to force it.

: I am having a blast, this is the first "A" gasket job I've done since '72.

: How about a little help from me friends? Thanks,

: Tom (out of Lansing)
