Fred,

If you paint the hood as one piece there will be no paint on the rods or the insides of the 'slots' where the rod go. Then the first time it gets wet you will have rust. Also since the paint will bond the sections of the hood together the first time you open it the paint will tear at the joint. I would suggest that you use the stainless steel rods that are now available. The inside of the 'slots' that the rods go into should be painted with a primer and the rods should be test fitted before the color coats. You do not need to color paint the insides of the 'slots'. So stuff them with paper before you spray the color coat. Another trick is to put a rod in the 'slots' of each panel while you paint it and remove it before the paint dries by rotating it. Hope this helps.

Bob
