Well, that's almost true. My late '30 coupe has the '31 style one piece splash. I don't have the information in front of me, but there were, I think, several months in late '30 when some of the changes generally accepted as '31 features were already incorporated. Frame number is the best bet, although if the car was a kit, all that will really tell is what the original engine number was.
