Fuel additives (lead additive)

I've got a 1929 Roadster pickup That was restored about 5 years ago. It does not have the hardened valves and seats. Does anyone have some good information concerning the lead fuel additives? Should they be used? Which brand? How often?
At about 3,000 miles per year how will the engine suffer and when?
