Hi,
Originally the engine number was stamped into the top of the frame on the drivers side just outside of the clutch pedal. The body needs to be off the frame to find this number. Many engines have been replaced over the years. Engine numbers can be checked against a listing found on the MAFCA web page: (www.mafca.com/eng-prod.htm).
Keep in mind this will tell you the month the engine was produced and could preceed car assembly by up to two months.
You may want to check some of the other data on the MAFCA web page and see if you have either a body tag number or a body assembly plant number that might give a clue as to the origin of the car.
