I had the same symptoms when my repro fuel line slid through the compession fitting back into my repro sediment bowl and restricted the flow of gas to the carb. Took off the line and shortened it a bit, problem solved.
Not quite the same symptoms; the solder connection at the wire from the lower distributor plate was bad. Engine ran fine until I advanced the spark, then missing, etc.
