: I have recently inherited a Model A from my grandfather. I have no idea what I have, but I believe it is a 31' coupe of some sort. The exterior color was originally black as far as I can tell and it has a trunk, not a rumble seat. It has dual lamp head lamps and the cowel lamps over a chrome trim strip which runs up and over the cowel from fender to fender. The grille-radiator has a black inset with a chrome Ford emblem applied in the middle. The headlamps, cowel lamps, and radiator ring are all nickel plated. The interior has some rough light tan (as best as I can tell) fabric covering all major surfaces and seat. The firewall I believe is what they call "indented" behind the engine and where the fuel comes through. The engine # is *A1478035* however I have not found the # on the frame yet. The engine was rebuilt over 10 years ago but hasn't run since. I am not sure if it is the original engine but am pretty sure it is a 31' body. If anyone can tell me what type of coupe I have, I would sure appreciate it.

I'm in the same boat your in. My grandfather bought a 31 Roadster off my late great uncle who always owned vintage Ford's. Well anyway, it he rebuilt the engine in 77 and drove it around the block and it hasn't ran ever since. My great uncle never kept any of his cars original. It has hydraulic brakes off a '39 I believe. The fenders have some plastic in it and the interior is hand made from who knows when. The wheels are 16" off a later Ford from somewhere. I have know idea what is original, nor do I know what is supposed to be original. I've cleaned up the wheel cylinders and I'm about to get it running again. It is all black, becuase all of his cars were black, and I'm know for a fact it's been repainted. I would like to see if I could get some pics of a plain jane 31 roadster to help me on my project. thanks in advance.
