Jack,

I apologize for contradicting your advice on front wheel bearing adjustment-but, I felt the same way you do about not getting them too tight.The problem is that if you do adjust them that way you will most likely end up with a bad case of the dreaded front wheel shimmy.I had the shimmy problem and could find nothing wrong.The I read Jim Schild's "Model A Shop Manual", page 39, paragraph 15.I adjusted my front wheel bearings as suggested there (tighten to 15 to 20 foot-pounds and back off one castellation and replace cotter pin).The shimmy disapeared entirely.Being the nervous typeI disassmbled the bearings at 100, 500, and 1000 miles to look for signs of bearing overheating.I'm glad to report that there have been no signs of any problem except for NO MORE SHIMMY!!!
