: Okay, I've read all of the articles on gear oil, 600W, etc. This time I'll pay attention! What's the concensus out there for lubricant for the transmission and rear end?I thought I would top up what's in the car now.Do I remember one trusted sage recommending SAE140 for the purpose seeing how no one's really sure what's really IN 600W?Thanks for your help.Dave.

Hi Dave
I checked with a local oil supply company and talked to one of the salesmen thats been around for a while and told him that I needed the 600 weight oil and what it was used in and that any lighter weight oil likes to run out of the transmission, etc.He told me he had just what I needed.I got a product called Lubriplate #8, PT0014057, C-116.It is a gear oil with the consistency of thick honey. It stays on the gears longer than lighter oi, and seems to stay in the transmission.I used it in the rear end, steering box and transmission. My transmission now shifts much smoother andwithout grinding the gears, and it steers easier since there`s lube in the steering box.I`d check with a local supplier or here`s an address that`s on the bottle:Lubriplate Division, Fiske Brothers Refining Company, Newark, NJ 07105 (201)589-9150// -- or -- Toledo, Ohio 43605 (419) 691-2491. It comes by the gallon and cost me $18.00/ gallon. There is plenty left over after filling the necessary parts. I`m located in West Michigan and I can give you a local supplier`s name if you are in the area. Just e-mail me and I`ll pass the name, etc along. (to anyone).
Hope this helps.
Craig
